Day 1 : Arrival Bario - Longhouse Tour - Bario Valley Tour [-/L/D]
Meet and greet at Bario Airport, and transfer to Bario Homestay. After that, you will explore Bario Valley, which brings us Bario Asal longhouse. Bario Longhouse is a style of communal living that are traditional to many indigenous peoples of Borneo, including the Kelabit. It is a wooden house built on stilts, where several families live under the same roof. There are small rooms to the side for sleeping, but the main section of the house, where cooking and socialising happen, is fully communal. You also can see some of the women still have the traditional hanging earlobes, where their ears have been stretched from heavy earrings, as you will be guided through the tour. Lunch and Dinner will be at homestay. Overnight at homestay (sleep early as Day 2 starts early)
*stargaze outside Homestay if you like, the sky will be fully lit with Stars from Highland
Day 2 : Hike Pray Mountain - Pa'Umor Tour (few tour spots) - Eco Farm [B/L/D]
Tour starts at 5am morning, with Guided Hiking up the Prayer Mountain (4666ft), where you can catch a beautiful view of Bario Asal from the summit at Sunrise. Then, head down back to the Homestay for breakfast (optional: can pack breakfast up, so can return slowly, and not hungry). The beauty of hiking/trekking in Bario is that the weather is so cooling; you most likely will not break a sweat while trekking. Some treks are short and simply but the rewards at the end of the trek is nice. Then, you will lunch at homestay. You may rest for a few minutes after lunch, and then continue the Pa'Umor Tour and outside Bario Asal, starting with the Bario Salt Spring. Actually, this is more of a local homegrown center where local families take turns to process and produce the famous Bario Mineral Salt. After that, depart to the Ceria Ricemill, where you may witness the processes of turning harvested paddy into rice, and buy the famous Bario Rice here, cheaper than the market rate. Other places to visit includes the Water Catchment area, Suspension Bridge and to the Bario Pineapple Garden. Bario pineapple is said to be at its sweetest best when grown in the highlands and not elsewhere. *If time permits, continue tour to the Eco Farm, where you can walk around the hilly park, take pictures with the well-maintained landscape of lakes with farm animals, and enjoy the nice breeze along spectacular view from the Guest House built on the taller part of the Hill in the Park. Dinner will be served at homestay. Overnight at Homestay.
Day 3 : Solar Farm - Bario Plane Wreckage - Departure [B/-/-]
Breakfast at Homestay. Proceed to visit the Solar Farm, the only source of Electricity to Bario. The Photovoltaic Diesel Hybrid System (the biggest solar farm in Sarawak) has been operating and running since beginning of 2016, providing power supplies to the 9 villages in and around the Bario Highlands. Next, visit the Plane Wreckage, closeby Nancy Hariss Homestay. This plane is in three pieces minus the wings and interior, so you will see a full-bodied structure and you also can actually go inside the plane, and take pictures. It is actually a wrecked Twin Pioneer aircraft from the British Royal Air Force, which skidded along old Bario grass airstrip while trying to land on the wet runway (site of the original runway before New Airport built) sometime in 1963, during the Sarawak/ Indonesia confrontation. *if time permits, you can opt to go back to Homestay and refresh before leaving to airport, or direct Transfer to the airport for departure. Lunch will be at own cost at airport, or try Bario favourite Maggie mee before flight out to Miri.
